After studying a small business course in his early 20s, James set his focus on owning and running his own small business. Money is ok but his cash flow could be better. He hasn’t had a huge opportunity to travel and would love to do more. He moved in with his partner recently to save money and buy their first home. Saving for his retirement has never been a focus and either has having the right income protection.

• Michelle is established, well-educated and also has a good income, however she’s intimidated when it comes to investing. She feels safe with property as she doesn’t understand finance. She may not have much super as her and her husband started work before payments became compulsory (or run their own business and don’t pay themselves super). They have no retirement plan as its still feels so far away…
• Jonny has a very good income, but still can’t afford to buy a house in an Australian capital city. He wants to invest but doesn’t know how and subsequently keeps his savings in a high interest account.

I feel at ease with sound financial advice. This is easier than I thought. I should have done this long ago.

TRIGGERS

Balancing family and career has always been tricky but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Money is good, but Margaret feels like it’s the time to make sure her and her husband are financially sound for up-coming retirement. It’s a little strange to her, but she can now focus on the things, dreams and passions of her own. A recent death of a close family member made them realise their family might not be ok if they were no longer there to support them.
